Background
A special bottling from the 2024 vintage. Orginally destined for an export market, the order was cancelled so we are now making available to our online customers
Conditions
The 2024 vintage saw a break in the cooler wetter La Nina weather patterns producing a drier more classic growing season. Vineyards maintained good soil moisture carry over from 2023 and generally produced healthy crops. Harvest conditions were close to ideal, with only one week of heat in March. Shiraz, 63%, sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf and Eden Valley regions and Grenache sourced from a 100 year-old vineyard in Tanunda blended with old vines from the Moppa subdistrict.
Winemaking
The parcels of fruit were fermented separately in small stainless steel fermenters, some shiraz with submerged caps, and twice daily pump overs. A portion of the grenache ferment included whole bunches to accentuate the savoury aspects of the variety.
Maturation
Post ferment, the component wines were matured in oak for 15 months, with 5% in new fine grain French oak hogsheads (300L) and the balance in older French hogsheads and puncheons. We intend for the wine to be approachable in its youth, but with ample structure and fruit depth to allow cellaring, under good conditions, for at least 10 years.
